The increase in population of Cyprus in recent times has been ascribed to the movement of immigrants from various part of the world into the small island of Northern Cyprus. Tourists from United Kingdom, Ukraine and some parts of Europe travel to Cyprus on a yearly basis to experience the rich hospitality of the Cyprus People.

There are about Eight Universities in Cyprus and they include the following:

 - Near East University,
 - Eastern Meditearanean University,
 - Akdeniz Karpaz University,
 - Girne American University,
 - European University of Lefke,
 - Middle East Technical University,
 - Cyprus Science University,
 - Cyprus Health and Science University,
 - Final University, etc.

We also have a large number of Arab and African students from majorly southern and Western Africa coming into Cyprus for educational purposes. Countries like Zimbabwe, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Congo and Morocco, Kurdistan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Pakistan amongst many can be seen in Cyprus.

The crisis situation around some countries in the middle east region also have made thousands, and millions of refugees to flee their country to all parts of Europe including Northern Cyprus. The once secured and peaceful Northern Cyprus to become abit densely populated and fraught or threatened with lots of security tension. In recent times, rumors have it that the Island harbors some criminals and extremist or terrorists who have entered Cyprus for security, and have been sending bomb threat signals.
